2008 Bioinformatics workshop was offered from June 30 to August 7 in collaboration with the Macaulay Honors College Summer Academy. This workshop included a morning session (Genomics and Structural Bioinformatics) and an afternoon session (Computational Skills in Bioinformatics).
Topics included in the morning session:
Human Genome and Diseases, and Genes and Protein Structure
Hands-on Wet Lab Experience:
1 - Protein Expression and Purification
2 - PCR – Gene Amplification in Forensic Science
Knowledge Creation: Gene Annotation
Computer Programming to Create images of STEM Subjects
20 Prime Time Lectures with Outstanding Scientists
Field Trip to New York Structural Biology Center (NYSBC)
Attended the NY Structural Summer Symposium at Cold Spring Harbor
This workshop also provides a series of Prime Time Lectures given by distinguished scientists, professors, and artists from universities and research institutes in the New York area.
The afternoon class was divided into two sections:
Students in Section A focused on statistics, genome sequencing, and annotation. Click here for more information about Section A.
Students in Section B focused on math, art, programming, and molecular graphics. Click here for more information about Section B.
