At that time I got a flu that leveled me. My relatively new bride, Bernice nursed 
me back to health and in gratitude I wrote the first four lines. Years later after 
children I added some lines but they are not as good. 
I call the first four lines my best poem.

My Bernice

Sousa only had a band
Moses but a Promised Land
Jason just some golden fleece
But only Stanley has Bernice

Caeser ruled a nation great
God's domain is all of heaven
Next to mom they scarcely rate
For she's the one who gave us Evan

Franklin made the lightning rod
Nobel a prize for peace
Still to mom we give the nod
For making us Elise
