I have been Jim’s colleague and friend since about 1980. Jim lost his wife, Beth to cancer a few years ago. Lucky guy, who really knows how to live, he found Mimi and is now happy again as he deserves. I wrote this poem to accompany photos that I took at their wedding. One more fact. Over the years our relationship has evolved. At first I would tend to roast Jim. Then one day in the evening of an AGU meeting in San Francisco, after a beer or two, he turned the tables on me. Boy, did he nail me! He was funny and profound at the same time and I couldn’t say a thing. So here’s to you, Jim. For Jim and Mimi Lawrence on their Wedding Here are the images that I scanned From the nicest wedding in the land Some include the whole family Others have just Jim and Mimi Some are sharp, while others are blurry Because for those I had to hurry But I had all the time and more To get the shot we all wished for I shouldn't have worried I would miss That long, delicious, passionate kiss. I gasped - my heart and hand began to flutter Oh darn, I clicked and moved the shutter. The snapshot blurred, but when all was done It revealed how two had joined as one.
