The fundamental theme permeating my research has been my great fascination with complex dynamic systems in my original geoscience research field of VOLCANOLOGYand in my more recent complementary research field of GEOSCIENCE EDUCATION. Both areas are integral part of my vision of contemporary science in a world in which research and teaching are inexorably integrated into a cohesive whole.

 

When asked what he valued in his own work, Samuel Backett replied:
