Google. There is some great stuff indexed, along with a lot of plain garbage. If you use the "garbage" in your essays, I can spot this a mile off.

New England Journal of Medicine - the physician's "Time magazine", very readable, cutting edge, will become a lifelong addiction. I think their are special rates for students - but you may be able to get online through CUNY library services.
