• Often PubMed will bring you to a link for a free copy of the paper.
• Free from a CUNY (or CITY) I.P. address
  American Chemical Society - Many important journals.
  Science Direct - Even more important journals
• ISI web of knowledge The Citation index (Web of Science) is very useful.

• CUNY library connections to journals and search engines that are free from a CUNY I.P. address.
• CCNY library More than what is available from CUNY (look at Online Electronic Journals).
  

• Protein data bank: use this to get data files and other useful information about proteins
• pdb documentation links
• PDB databank in Europe (PDBeLite) a very good way to look up protein data files
• very good description of amino acids

Visualizing proteins on your computer

• PYMOL Open source, flexible. manual
• Rasmol A molecule viewer that will run on any computer. Good tutorial.
• Swiss PDB viewer More sophisticated than RASMOL but its also ok.
• RCSB's links Some of these let you view things on your viewer from the protein data bank.

Databases

• SCOP A listing of all pdb files sorted by structure (my favorite)
  
• CATH protein structural classification.
