ALL EXAMS ARE CUMULATIVE
Homework is worth 10 pts. Each exam is worth 18pts; final 36 pts
(Equation Sheet) Use this equation sheet when you study. It will be given out for each exam.

Exams:
Friday Feb 25: Chapter 1,2,3,4 (through 4.4) This is the warm-up for the class.
Monday Mon 21: Chapter 4, 6, 7 (All exams are cumulative- Physics is cumulative!!!) . This is the heart of the class. The core concepts are here.
Monday Apr 18: Chapter 5, 8-11 Movements not in a straight line. Reviews material in 1-7.
Chapters on fluids reviews chapters 4-7. Material on heat reviews chapter 6.
Final covers chapters 12-15 as well as everything else.
Each exam has a 10 point essay question. You will get to tell me about something you experienced in your life (best) or see on TV or read about that you saw differently because of the material you are studying in the class. LOOK AROUND - PAY ATTENTION - you will find things to write about. Walking, commuting, carrying, things a kid does or says. Things you study in your other science classes. Find some connection.
My expectation is that while physics is 'rocket science' it is not as hard as you imagine. Everyone in the class should plan on passing, so put in the effort.

LABS

If you miss ANY labs I cannot give you a grade for the course. You will get an incomplete
If you need to miss a lab find out if there are any possibility for makeup

Schedule of labs (2002)

You will need to purchase a lab manual in the Physics Dept. (J-419) before the first lab.

Pre-lab questions.
You must hand in the answer to there problems before you start the lab.
You will not be able to understand these questions without reading the lab.

In library on reserve

A more conceptual view-I really like this book

Hewitt: Conceptual Physics

Other physics texts. If you don't get it in our text try another!

Hecht Physics
Giancoli Physics
Willson Physics

Cutnell and Johnson: Physics

There are lots of old exams - some with answers

Things to think about: Physics in Life

Answers to problems left unsolved in class

Physics on the web:

American Physical Society
The education links and exercises and problems are pretty good (We are doing Classical Mechanics for the first part of the semister)
A free on-line textbook
physics comics - at our level!
Physics of amusment parks - short descriptions at our level
How things work - might be good resource for the essay test question
