Announcements:
- Exams available- if you want to have a look at them, send email.
- Exams are graded, scores for the exams and grades are on Blackboard and sent to the registrar.
- The final exam will be in room 6329, the classroom we were originally assigned.
- I will be travelling from May 12 onward, so no office hours or class after that.
- The votes are in: the final exam will be May 20, Wednesday, 1:00-3:15pm. Room TBA
- There are two possible times for the final exam: 5/20/2009 Wednesday 1:00pm - 3:15pm or 5/13 Wednesday 2:00pm-3:40pm. If you have a prefence, please express it via email.
- To help accommodate an injured faculty member, our class will meet in NAC 1511E (the lab, right next to our current room 1511A) for the foreseeable future.
- Exam 2 graded, scores on Blackboard
- Exam 2 coming up, on April 1st. Will cover up to section 6.2
- Second fundamental form example notebook
- A few Mathematica notebooks with examples from lecture:
- Class on Monday, March 9th is cancelled, due to the conference on geometric group theory at Stevens Institute.
- A nice video "Mobius transformations revealed: on YouTube
- Mon Mar 2: yes, there is a snowstorm but we still have class.
- The campus internet has been unreliable over the weekend of Feb 28th.
- Class meets in 1511E Wed Feb 4th onward.
- Class cancelled Mon Feb 2nd
- Beginning the second week, Monday Feb 2nd, we will meet in NAC 1511E.
- First homework is due Wednesday, Jan 28.
- There are two texts for the course. The one we'll be using is Pressley, "Elementary Differential Geometry" and
the other one is completely optional, and much more expensive, and much more focused on Mathematica: Gray et al, "Modern Differential Geometry." Don't buy Gray until you are sure that you really want it. Pressley you'll need for sure.
- First class meets January 26th.
- Mathematica is an extensive mathematics software package with symbolic, graphical and numerical components.
It usually costs alot ($2500 for grownups, $140 for students). We will be using Mathematica from time to time
for calculations and graphical descriptions of curves and surfaces.
To get for free the Mathematica software package using the CUNY site license, do the following:
- Make sure you are enrolled in the course.
- Read the license form and sign the agreement form
- Take the completed forms and a blank CD-R to Kent Eng in NAC 4225E.
Mathematica is available for Mac, Linux and Windows through our CUNY site license.
