Celebrating the Centenary of One of the Founders of Combinatorial Group Theory

The City College of New York and The CUNY Graduate Center

The Center for Algorithms and Interactive Scientific Software of the Division of Science and the Grove School of Engineering of the City College of New York, in collaboration with Texas A & M, announces a two-day conference on group theory. The conference will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of the founders of infinite group theory, Wilhelm Magnus. This conference will be held at the City College of New York at 137th and Convent Ave on Friday September 28 2007 and at the CUNY Graduate Center on 5th Ave at 34th St on Saturday, September 29.

This event is sponsored by CUNY Chancellor Matthew Goldstein, CCNY Provost Zeev Dagan, CCNY Dean of Science Maria Tamargo, CCNY Dean of Engineering Joseph Barba and the National Science Foundation, and is hosted by the Center of Algorithms and Interactive Scientific Software (CAISS) and the New York Group Theory Cooperative.
