ABSTRACT |

|
In all physical systems in order to examine certain properties or produce specific manipulations of the material the tool used must work at a length-scale smaller than some fundamental property length-scale of the system.
The objective in our work is to use conventional small-scale fabrication tools and/or develop new small-scale tools to examine and explore condensed matter systems.
As examples I will review our results in four such efforts: small wavelength surface acoustic wave studies of the correlated 2D-electron gas,
light propagation in photonic band-gap devices,
dephasing measurements in molecular scale metallic wires,
and molecular conduction studies using electromigration or MBE generated small gaps.
