The City College Physics Department research program encompasses
many of the most active areas of investigation in present-day physics.
In addition to vigorous pursuits in well-defined, traditional areas such
as high-energy and particle physics, solid state and condensed matter
physics, atomic and molecular physics, and fluid dynamics, the Physics
Department has developed several inter-disciplinary areas, such as
biophysics and laser physics. The faculty assists students
interested in research in these and other areas to design suitable
programs. Certain other specialties (e.g. low-energy nuclear physics)
are offered at other branches of the City University of New York. Our
research program is flexible to students's individual needs and
interests. This is consonant with the general spirit of innovation that
characterizes City College's academic life.
