The Science Division Computer Facility is currently serviced with a SUN Server system. The central system is networked to workstations, personal and laboratory computers, terminals, laser printers, and other equipment throughout the Science Building. The Science Division ethernet connects to other on-campus computer facilities through high-speed, fiber-optic digital links. The entire system is part of the worldwide Internet computer network.
Researchers in the physics department have powerful, local computing resources, and have network access to resources, such as supercomputers and databases, in other locations. Moreover, the City University of New York maintains a University Computer Center, which includes several large IBM computers including two Vector Processors. The IBM system has substantial mass storage, tape-drive capacity and other peripherals, and supports mathematical, and statistical software packages, artificial intelligence software, and many computer languages. Students and faculty members at all CUNY colleges can obtain accounts on the IBM system
