Directions to the Physics Department at City College
The Physics Department is located in the Marshak Science Building
at 138th Street and Convent Avenue.

At the entrance of Marshak, there is usually a guard who might
ask you for identification. Tell
the guard you are visiting the physics department and show him/her
any ID card. After entering the Marshak builing, proceed to
the end of the hall, turn right and walk to the elevators.

The Physics Department office is on the 4th floor in J-419.
By car:
A parking permit must be requested from the Physics Department
in advance: Call 212-650-6832 and speak to the physics secretary
Sue Turner.
Drive to Amsterdam Avenue at 133rd Street and enter the parking
lot on the east side of Amsterdam. There is a booth with a
guard there. Supply him with the parking permit information.
After parking, walk north on Convent Avenue
following the blue dots on
the local campus map.
By train:
If you arrive at Penn Station, then you may either take a
taxi
or take the number 1 or 9 subway (the IRT) north to 137th Street
Station at Broadway and then walk east on 138th Street two blocks,
crossing Amsterdam Avenue to Convent Avenue while
following the green dots of the
local campus map.
If you arrive at Grand Central Station, then you may either take a
taxi or take the Shuttle subway to
Times Square Station and change to the number 1 or 9. The rest
is the same as the Penn Station case above.
The cost of a downtown taxi to City College is about $12. The subway
fare is $1.50. The taxi is somewhat faster than the subway except
during rush hour, when the subway is usually quicker.

By airplane:
From any of the New York area airports, the easiest way
to get to City College is by taxi.
Fares are approximately as follows.
Newark airport: $50
LaGuardia airport: $20
JFK airport: $45
Tolls and tip must be paid and the above prices include these charges.

138th Street and walk eastward
following the green dots of the
local campus map.
Within Manhattan in general:
There are several buses
(M4, M5, M18, M100, M101) and
subways (1, 9, A, B, C, D) to City College.
Refer to
these directions provided by the City College of New York.
For subways A, B, C or D (the IND) north to
the station at 145th Street and then walk west and south
along the red dots of the
local campus map.
