Virtually all PhD students receive comprehensive financial support in the form of a teaching assistantship and/or research assistanship which covers tuition and fees, and provides a stipend for living expenses.

In the second year students take additional courses, select a mentor, and start working on their thesis. By the end of the second year, students are expected to
have passed the second-level examination. For this examination students usually must
write and defend before a thesis committee an original research proposal not
directly related to their area of research.
Prospective students should contact Prof. T. Lazaridis for information (email: tlazaridis -at- ccny.cuny.edu).
