Entrance Requirements
All entering students should have completed the following courses in science with at least a B average:
In addition, if English is not your native language and you are a foreign student, you must take the TOEFL exam and score at least 550.
Degree Requirements
Thesis Option
U791: Colloquium (1 credit each) 2 credits
1799.1 Thesis Research 3 credits
1799.2 Thesis Research 3 credits
Graduate courses in an approved area of specialization 12 credits
Additional elective courses 10 credits
The thesis option also requires submission and defense of an original, independent and publishable research project. The details of the project and thesis are to be arranged with a mentor and research committee.
Comprehensive Exam Option
U791: Colloquium (1 credit each) 2
Graduate courses in an approved area of specialization 12 credits
Additional elective courses 20 credits
(*May include up to 6 credits of U792: Tutorial, or U792.01: Advanced Study)
The comprehensive exam option requires an exam with both written and oral components. The exam is organized through consultation with the Graduate Studies Committee.
