Doctoral Program in Biology

barbara pezzanite works with alex dzubin in the arctic The Ph.D. degree is awarded for mastery of a specific subject area and for the demonstrated ability to conduct original research. Applicants are carefully evaluated for their potential in these areas and for their commitment to pursuing a rigorous sequence of courses, plus the initiative to work on independent research projects. Although the prior education of applicants can vary widely, the advisory committees responsible for admitting students must be convinced that a sufficient background will allow these goals to be obtained. Additional information can be obtained from the Graduate Center Biology Doctoral Program page and from the Handbook for the Doctoral Program in Biology.
